Confronting HBO's "Queer Culture Project" survey of 2016 led to the creation of a vibrant three-month pop-up experience in Provincetown, MA, the premier gay resort destination in America. The Studio, nestled in the picturesque locale, was conceived as a dedicated meeting ground for the queer community, fostering idea exchange and purposeful conversations.
Each week, HBO's acclaimed shows took center stage with themed programming, turning The Studio into a buzzing hotspot in town. A weekly takeover by new queer media outlets featured renowned guests engaging in dynamic dialogues with the Provincetown community, including sessions with headliners like Aaron Hicklin, editor-in-chief of Out Magazine, in conversation with Kim Petras, and The Tenth Magazine interviewing Amy Aniobi, the producer and writer of Insecure. With a lineup of 93 free events and collaborations with 31 local and national partners, each exclusive program drew significant attention. From Tuesday morning yoga with Provincetown's Yoga East to Saturday's Ice Cream Social featuring custom flavors from Big Gay Ice Cream and Sunday's Drag Queen trivia hosted by the renowned Jinx Monsoon, the diverse programming addressed crucial real-world issues. These conversations brought prominent topics to the forefront of HBO's consumer outreach, culminating in over 12,000 visitors and more than 260 million media impressions over the summer. The Studio not only provided a voice and space for all who entered, but also upheld HBO's prolonged commitment to the LGBTQ+ community.
